What is retinopathy of prematurity

Let us tell you that around 16 weeks of pregnancy, the eyes of the children start developing. If the child is born prematurely, then the blood vessels of the eyes do not get enough time to develop. The result is that instead of developing in the eyes, blood cells start growing and spreading throughout the retina. These normal blood vessels are fragile and weak and can leak. Retinal detachment can lead to visual impairment and childhood blindness.
Which children get this disease
Rope test is done to prevent this disease. Babies who are premature or premature need a rope test. Women whose pregnancy is done by IVF technique should also undergo form test after the birth of children. It is right to get this test done within 30 days of birth.

How to treat retinopathy of prematurity?
Laser Therapy: Laser therapy can be used as the standard treatment for ROP. This therapy burns the abnormal blood vessel around the retina.Avascular retina is treated by an ophthalmologist with laser treatment to reduce the retinal oxygen demand and prevent the formation of abnormal blood vessels.
Cryotherapy: Cryotherapy can be used to prevent blood vessels from dilating on the retina. This can also be called cold therapy. This is an older form of ROP treatment.
Anti VEGF:Research is ongoing on anti-VEGF drugs for treatment. Anti-VEGF drugs work by stopping the growth of blood vessels in the retina. This drug is injected into the eye while it is given anesthesia, although no drugs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat ROP.Babies with ROP require regular check-ups as the condition can lead to problems such as misalignment of the eyes, increased risk of glaucoma and nearsightedness, besides permanent blindness.
