The news of bribe-commission in lieu of job is not new. Job-related scams often come to the fore, but now such a case has come to the fore, which is probably the first such job scam. The strings of this case are related to the country’s largest IT company TCS, in which commissions worth crores have been taken in exchange for providing jobs (TCS Job Scandal).
A whistleblower revealed
According to a news of Live Mint, in exchange of getting jobs in the biggest IT company, some big officers took commissions on a large scale from Consultancy Staffing Firms. This whole episode has been disclosed by a whistleblower, who informed the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of TCS about the matter. The whistleblower has alleged that ES Chakraborty, the global head of TCS’s Resource Management Group (RMG), has been taking commission from staffing firms for years in exchange for getting them jobs in the company.
The company has taken this action so far
After receiving the complaint, TCS formed a committee of three top officials to investigate it, in which Chief Information Security Officer Ajit Menon was also included. After weeks of investigation, TCS sent Chakraborty on leave and suspended four executives of the Resource Management Group. Apart from this, the IT company also blacklisted three staffing firms.
Chakraborty was working in TCS since 1997. He reported directly to Chief Operating Officer Natarajan Ganapathy Subramaniam. Action has also been taken against Resource Management Group executive Arun GK and he has been sacked. Apart from these two, the names of the officers on whom TCS has taken action are yet to be known. The names of the three staffing firms that have been blacklisted have not been revealed yet.
Fear of commission of 100 crores
According to the news, it is not yet clear that in lieu of getting a job in TCS, on what scale this disturbance has happened, but it is believed that the people involved have taken at least Rs 100 crore in commission. In fact, the RMG division places around 1,400 engineers on various projects, including new recruits every day. This means that the RMG division of TCS does a new placement every minute. From this the level of disturbance can be imagined.
