In an interview given to Indian Express, Jitesh Sharma said, ‘I never wanted to play cricket. I never hired a coach in my childhood. I learned to play cricket by watching videos on youtube. These videos were mostly of Adam Gilchrist and Sourav Ganguly. I always wanted to go in defence. I wanted to become an Air Force officer. Jitesh further added, ‘I loved the blue shirt. You need to clear a specific cut-off to appear in the NDA exam. There was a rule in Maharashtra that a player who played till the state level got 25 marks. To get this extra percentage, I started playing cricket.
Trial given at the behest of neighbor
It is about the year 2011. Jitesh Sharma was 16 years old at that time. This year, at the behest of his neighbor Amar More, he took part in the district trials held in the Vidarbha Cricket Association. According to Jitesh, ‘My neighbor Amar More had seen me playing cricket in school. On his advice, I joined the Amravati Cricket Club. My plan was clear that I will leave cricket after the board. But this never happened.
Plays cricket for Vidarbha and Punjab Kings
Jitesh Sharma’s T20 debut happened in the year 2014 against Uttar Pradesh. He made his debut in List A matches in the same year. In October 2015, he made his first-class debut against Odisha. During this, he continued to play for Vidarbha for a long time. In the mega auction of IPL 2022, Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 20 lakh. Jitesh was very successful in IPL last year. During this, he scored 234 runs in 12 matches. Looking at his batting and wicketkeeping skills, Punjab Kings retained him before the mini auction of IPL 2023.
Doing wonders in IPL 2023
Jitesh Sharma has performed amazingly in the Indian Premier League 2023 as well. In the 16th season of the league, Jitesh has scored 145 runs in 7 matches. During this, his highest score was 41 runs. He is known for scoring very fast runs in slogs over. He has hit 11 fours and 10 sixes so far. Apart from the batsman, Jitesh is also a great wicketkeeper.
