Many people have the habit of drinking water while eating food. There are some people who are unable to finish their food because of drinking too much water. The elders of our house always advise that water should not be drunk while eating food. Because doing this has a bad effect on digestion and many physical problems can also arise for you. Even though water helps you in digesting food, but drinking more water while eating food can also have the opposite effect on you.

According to experts, the right time to drink water is 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after having food. During digestion, the acid present in our stomach helps in breaking down the food eaten. However, when you consume water while eating, due to this, the acid in the stomach becomes diluted, due to which there is a problem in digesting the food. Experts say that doing so has a bad effect on the digestion process.

Could it be acidity?

Some people also believe that drinking water while eating food causes the problem of acidity. However, there is no solid evidence to prove this yet. In such a situation, it is difficult to say that drinking water while having food can cause acidity.

May increase weight!

Regarding water, it is also said that by drinking water while eating, the weight also increases rapidly. Apart from this, if you are drinking any juice or sugary drink along with food, then there is a possibility of increasing the risk of weight gain. Drinking more water while eating food fills your stomach excessively, due to which many physical problems become a cause of concern.

What does the research say?

No research has come to the fore regarding drinking water along with food, on the basis of which any conclusion can be drawn. There is also no strong evidence that drinking water during meals has a bad effect on the digestion process, stomach enzymes and acid. However, in some studies, people suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have been forbidden to drink water while eating. A 2014 study states that people suffering from GERD should not consume any liquid while eating food.
