IRCTC News Update: This is important news for those who book online railway tickets through the IRCTC website. Do you know that the earnings of IRCTC have doubled in just three years by charging convenience fee for online ticket booking. In the financial year 2019-20, where IRCTC earned Rs 352.33 crore from the convenience fee charged on booking rail tickets, it has increased to Rs 694 crore in 2021-22. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given this information in the Parliament.
IRCTC’s earnings doubled from convenience fee
Answering the written question asked in the Lok Sabha, the Railway Minister said that after 2019-20, if we look at the earnings from the facility fee to IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation), it was 352.33 crores in 2019-20. Which came down to Rs 299.17 crore in 2020-21 when the lockdown was imposed in the country and the rail service was closed for a long time. In 2021-22, the earnings from IRCTC’s service charges increased to Rs 694.08 crore. That is, in two years, there was a jump of almost 100 percent in the earnings of IRCTC from the convenience fee. Till the month of December of the financial year 2022-23 i.e. in only 9 months, IRCTC has earned Rs 604.40 crore from the facility fee.
Convenience fee not refunded on ticket cancellation
The Railway Minister said that IRCTC charges a convenience fee from the passengers for booking e-tickets online. For AC class, a convenience fee of Rs 30 is charged for booking tickets through net banking, credit-debit cards, and Rs 20 for UPI payments. On the other hand, for non-AC class, IRCTC charges a convenience fee of Rs 15 for booking tickets through net banking, credit-debit cards, while a fee of Rs 10 has to be paid for UPI payments. The Railway Minister said that IRCTC does not refund the convenience fee on cancellation of tickets.
Ashwini Vaishnav told that on cancellation of ticket, cancellation or clerkage charge is charged under Railway Passenger’s Rules 2015 (Cancellation of Ticket and Refund of Fare). He told that IRCTC charges cancellation clerkage on the basis of the order of the Railways.
