IND vs AUS, Perth: Jasprit Bumrah Joins Elite Company With 11th Five-Wicket Haul In Tests

Jasprit Bumrah achieved yet another significant milestone in his Test career as he dismissed Alex Carey of Australia with the first ball of Day 2 of the 1st IND vs AUS Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Perth on November 23 (Saturday). By doing so, Bumrah secured his 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and with this achievement, the 30-year-old speedster matched legendary India pacers Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan in the list of most five-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler in Tests.

Bumrah now has 11 five-wicket hauls for India in just 41 Test matches, taking less than half the matches it took Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan to reach the same milestone.

India great Ravichandran Ashwin stands at the top of the list as he has 37 five-wicket hauls to his name for India in 105 matches followed by former India spinner Anil Kumble, who has 35  five-fors in 132 matches. Bumrah is currently ranked seventh on the list of most five-wicket hauls for India and needs 15 more five-fors to break into the top three.

With Australia resuming from the overnight score of 67-7, Australia could only add three runs before Bumrah scalped the first wicket of the day on the very first ball of his over on Day 2. Bumrah came around the wicket and delivered a short, good-length ball angled in towards Carey. The ball moved away after pitching, grazing the outside edge of Carey’s bat as he attempted to play at it. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant safely gathered the catch, reducing Australia to 70-8 and helping the skipper bag his 11th five-for for India.
