Mohammad Shami Hasin Jahan Case: The Supreme Court has given an important order on the petition of Hasin Jahan, his wife living separately from cricketer Mohammed Shami. The court asked the sessions judge of Alipore in West Bengal to dispose of the revision petition filed by Shami within a month. Hasin Jahan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court complaining that the proceedings on the criminal case registered against Shami on her behalf have been stalled for 4 years. This is happening because Shami has filed a revision petition in the sessions court.
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan got married in 2014. After a few years of marriage, Haseena Jahan started making many allegations against Shami. He accused Shami of torturing, assaulting and having relations with other women for dowry. He reiterated this allegation in the petition filed in the Supreme Court as well. Hasin Jahan said that Shami made illegal relations during his stay in the cricket tour. On opposing this, he was beaten up. Dowry was also demanded. However, Mohammed Shami has been continuously opposing these allegations by calling them false.
In 2018, Hasin Jahan lodged an FIR against Shami at the Jadavpur police station in Alipore, West Bengal, under IPC sections 498a (dowry harassment) and 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman). In the case, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) also issued a warrant against Shami. Shami filed a revision petition against this in the sessions court. Hearing this, in 2019, the sessions court stayed the case.
In March this year, the Calcutta High Court also upheld the Sessions Court’s order. Hasin Jahan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the cancellation of the order of the High Court and the Sessions Court. Now the Supreme Court has asked the Sessions Judge of Alipore to dispose of Shami’s revision petition in one month. If this is not possible, then order on the demand to remove the ban on the pending action in the CJM court.
