Sarfaraz Khan On Team India Selection: Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan, who was ignored for the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia, recalled how he changed people’s perception that he was a white-ball player and not a Test player. Sarfaraz also recalled how he waited for his opportunity and then responded by scoring a triple century when he got the chance to bat for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
Though the Mumbai batsman didn’t say so, his recollection of the incident shows how he plans to keep working hard and waiting for an opportunity to showcase his abilities. Sarfaraz was considered key to a middle-order spot in the Test team against Australia, but the selectors chose Suryakumar Yadav for red-ball cricket.
In a conversation on Geo Cinema’s new daily show ‘Hashtag Akashvani’ hosted by Aakash Chopra, Sarfaraz spoke about how everyone used to say that he is only a T20 and ODI player and not fit for the red ball. He said, when I returned from the World Cup and played IPL for 1-2 years, some people said that Sarfaraz Khan is a white ball player, who does not fit in red ball cricket. But I knew that I can do it and I am working hard on it.”
He further said, I was waiting for an opportunity where I can get 4 to 5 matches to play continuously in Ranji Trophy, so I will show them who I am. When that day came, I made a comeback for Mumbai, and my maiden hundred turned into a straight triple hundred for Mumbai. After that, I realized that things are not as difficult as people make them out to be. I also had a dream since childhood to play in Mumbai.
Sarfaraz Khan also mentioned AB de Villiers. Sarfaraz Khan said, rarely have I seen de Villiers practicing. But once I asked him, ‘Why don’t you practice more’? So, he said ‘When I was your age, I used to practice a lot, and I was not as talented as you are now, so just keep playing.’
