ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The Chairman and CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is currently in Lahore. This ICC official wants a written assurance from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on participating in the ODI World Cup to be held later this year. So that the world does not have to be done under the hybrid model.
ICC President Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have reached Lahore to talk to PCB in this matter. ICC officials will also meet PCB COO Barrister Salman Naseer and other top officials. In fact, PCB chairman Najam Sethi had given a statement after India’s decision not to go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup that he too would not send his team to Pakistan for the World Cup. In such a situation, now the ICC officials have reached Pakistan to solve this whole issue.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi had said in his statement that the Pakistan cricket team will go to India to participate in the ODI World Cup only when the Indian team comes to Pakistan to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy to be held in the year 2025.
BCCI rejects hybrid model of Asia Cup
The venue for the Asia Cup to be held in September has not been decided yet. The Pakistan Cricket Board had proposed to organize the Asia Cup on a hybrid model, according to which India’s matches were to be held at a neutral place and matches of the rest of the teams were said to be held in Pakistan. But the BCCI completely rejected this model of Pakistan. ICC officials are trying to reduce this impasse between Pakistan and India.
