Now talking about his retirement, he said, “I could have played cricket, but the drive was gone. It’s always about being the best. If I come back, I want to be the best and compete with Kohli and Surya.”
The former South African batsman further said, “As soon as that fire inside me went out, I realized what I was doing, so it was difficult. I can still play my super innings here and there but don’t want to because I want to be the best.”

In IPL, De Villiers made his debut on behalf of Delhi Capitals. He played 26 innings for Delhi, scoring 671 runs at an average of 31.95. After this, from 2011, de Villiers started playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has played 156 matches for Bangalore. In 144 innings of these matches, he has scored 4491 runs at an average of 41.20.
International career like this
De Villiers has played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals in his career. In 191 innings of Test, he has scored 8765 runs at an average of 50.66. Apart from this, he scored 9577 runs in ODIs and 1672 runs in T20 Internationals.
