Drinking Water Guidelines: To stay fit and healthy, the body needs sufficient amount of water. The human body is made up of 65-70 percent water. This is the reason why the body needs water for various functions. Water provides protection to all the organs of the body to function properly. Everyone has different requirements in terms of water. Water requirement varies from person to person depending on age, gender, body weight and climate. However, drinking sufficient amount of water is necessary for all people. Let’s know how much water people of different ages should drink?

How much water should 1-3 year olds drink

Dietician Shikha Kumari told in one of her Instagram posts that children of 1-3 years should drink 4-5 cups or 800-1000 ml of water daily.

How Much Water Should 4 to 8 Year Old Kids Drink?

Children aged 4 to 8 years should drink 1200 ml or 5 cups of water every day. This also includes liquid food.

How Much Water Should 9-13 Year Olds Drink?

Children of 9-13 years should consume 7 to 8 cups or 1600-1900 ml of water daily.

How Much Water Should Teens Drink?

Teenagers of 14 to 18 years should drink 1900 to 2600 ml i.e. 8-11 cups of water every day.

How much water should an adult drink?

People between the age of 19 to 64 years should consume 8-11 cups i.e. 2000 to 3000 ml of water every day. However, the requirement of water also depends on factors like the requirement of the person, his weight and climate.

How much water should an old person drink?

People 65 years or older should also drink 8-11 cups or 2000 to 3000 ml of water daily. Since the risk of dehydration may increase in old age, an elderly person should always consume sufficient amount of water.
