CDS Anil Chauhan Career: The Central Government has appointed Lt Gen Anil Chauhan (Retd) as the next Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). Anil Chauhan will be the second CDS of India. Early life and education
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was born on 18 May 1961. He is a resident of Gawana village of Kirsu block Rampur Gram Sabha of Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya Fort William, Kolkata. He is married to Anupama, who is an artist and has a daughter Pragya.
Career start
Anil Chauhan has graduated from the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun and the National Defense Academy in Khadakwasla. In 1981, he joined the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army. Chauhan has commanded an infantry division in the crucial Baramulla sector in the Northern Command as a Major General.
Career as a Lieutenant General
As a lieutenant general, Chauhan commanded a corps in the Northeast. He later became the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command from September 2019 and held the position till his retirement from service in May 2021.

Chouhan has served in several important staff positions in the Army. It also includes one of the most important staff appointments, the post of Director General of Military Operations. He also participated in the United Nations Mission in Angola.
Contribution even after retirement
The officer retired from the Indian Army on May 31, 2021. Chouhan has been contributing in strategic matters and national security issues even after his retirement.
Appointment as CDS
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan (Retd) was appointed as the second Chief of Defense Staff on 28 September 2022. He has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished and distinguished service in the Army.
