E-Pharmacies Companies: The Union Health Ministry seems to be in action mood against e-pharmacy. Can take strict action against misuse of medicines by e-pharmacy. The ANI report states that the business model that e-pharmacy companies are currently following, there is a high possibility of misuse of medicines.
There is also a risk of personal data of customers from ordering medicines online and there can be misuse of medicines. In such a situation, the Drugs Controller General of India has issued a show cause notice against the e-pharmacy selling medicines through the Internet. This notice was issued by DCGI on 8 February.
What were the instructions given by DCGI
In the show cause notice issued by DCGI, a reply was sought within 2 days. Reprimanding from the Ministry of Health, it was said that if the reason is not given, then the sale and distribution of medicines in the country will have to face strict action without any notice.
Violation of rules since 1940
According to the official of the Union Ministry, pharmacy companies have been violating various sections of Drugs and Cosmetics since 1940. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has issued show cause notices to more than 20 online pharmacies. This includes companies like Tata 1 MG, Practo, Apollo, Amazon and Flipkart.
Fear of sale of counterfeit drugs
In a statement from AIOCD, it has been said that distribution of e-medicines can be dangerous for people’s health. The rule never allows online sale and advertisement of medicines. It was said in the statement that the sale of spurious medicines has started.
