‘Halwa Ceremony’ before budget completed in Finance Ministry, printing of budget document will start

Budget 2023 Halwa Ceremony: The traditional ‘Halwa Ceremony’ marking the final stage of the Union Budget preparation process was held today in the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. During this, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Finance, members of the budget press were also present. In the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Halwa Ceremony was organized in the Ministry of Finance located in North Block and Halwa was distributed to all.

Budget will be paperless this year too

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has completed the traditional Halwa ceremony. Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad as well as senior officers of the Ministry of Finance were also present with him on the occasion of Halwa Ceremony. Like the last two years, the Union Budget for 2023-24 will also be presented in paperless form. It will be presented on February 1.

The Finance Ministry had informed about this through a tweet yesterday itself. The Finance Ministry had tweeted that the budget documents will be available on the ‘Union Budget Mobile App’ on both Android and iOS platforms after Sitharaman completes the budget speech on February 1.

Why is Halwa ceremony organized?

The belief behind Halwa ceremony is that something sweet should be eaten before doing every auspicious work. Halwa is also considered very auspicious in Indian tradition. This ceremony has been organized before the printing of documents for big events like the country’s budget. Under this tradition, the present Finance Minister himself distributes halwa to the employees associated with the budget, the employees associated with the printing of the budget and the finance officers. However, since the budget has started becoming paperless since the last 2 years, the printing of budget documents will not be organized as before.

Printing of budget documents will officially start

The process of printing of budget documents to be presented on February 1, 2023 will begin on Thursday along with the traditional Halwa ceremony in the Ministry of Finance. After the Halwa Ceremony, more than 100 officers and employees of the Finance Ministry will remain in the printing house located in the basement of the Finance Ministry from today till the presentation of the budget, in order to maintain the secrecy of the documents related to the budget. And they will not be allowed to come out till the budget is presented.

These people will not have any contact with their family members and will not even be allowed to go to their homes. There will be no arrangement of internet and phone. The family members can contact their near and dear ones only by calling the officers of these employees. Food will be prepared for them in the canteen of the Ministry of Finance and arrangements will be made for them to sleep in the basement.
