According to the scriptures, lamps should always be lit in pairs during their worship, like two, four etc. To please Lord Vishnu, a lamp made of 16 cotton wicks is considered the best. This is called 16 Mukhi Deepak. In the worship of Gods and Goddesses, the lamp of ghee should be kept towards their right hand. Mustard oil lamp should never be lit in the worship of Brihaspati, the Guru of the Gods, it is considered inappropriate. It is believed that due to this one has to face financial loss.
