Pre-installed Apps Rule: Whenever you buy a new smartphone, you will already get many apps in your new phone. Many of the customers like this, because some of these apps are very useful. At the same time, there are many customers who do not like pre-installed apps, because most of them never get used. If you also do not want a pre-installed app in your new phone, then be happy. The government has made special preparations for you.
Companies will have to provide this facility
According to a Reuters report, the Government of India is going to be strict about the pre-installed apps i.e. pre-installed apps in the smartphone. The government can force smartphone companies to allow users to remove any app from their phones. Currently the option to remove pre-installed apps is not provided. The government feels that these pre-installed apps can be a threat to national security.
Pre-screening of OS updates as well
Apart from this, the Government of India is making another preparation. The government can also make a rule that whenever companies make major updates to their operating systems, there will be mandatory screening first. Talking about pre-installed apps, the European Union has already made a law regarding the facility to remove them. However, for the first time in the world, a law is going to be made regarding pre-screening of OS updates.
These concerns are troubling the government
According to Reuters news, the Ministry of Information Technology is considering these new rules regarding concerns like misuse of users’ data, espionage etc. An official has been quoted in the news as saying that pre-installed apps can be a weak link regarding security. The government wants that no other country including China should take wrong advantage of this weak link. This is a matter of national security.
These companies can be harmed
However, officially nothing has been said about these rules yet. India is currently the second largest market for smartphones in the world. If the new rules come into force, then the launch schedule of various smartphone companies in the country may be affected. The new rule can cause significant damage to all those smartphone companies, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Apple, who earn money from pre-installed apps.
