Pulses Production Boost: The central government has taken a big decision to promote the production of pulses in the country. Under the Price Support Scheme, the government has abolished the 40 percent limit for buying Arhar, Urad and Masoor pulses for the year 2023-24. Now farmers can sell pulses as much as they want to the government under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). After this decision of the government, it is expected that the sowing of these pulses will increase in this Kharif season and the coming Rabi season.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has issued instructions in this direction to increase the production of pulses. The ministry said that in order to promote domestic production of pulses, under the price support system, the purchase limit of Arhar, Urad and Moong has been abolished for the 2023-24 season. With this, farmers will be assured that their produce will be bought without any limit at MSP i.e. Minimum Support Price (MSP).
After this assurance of the government to purchase pulses on MSP, farmers will be motivated to sow arhar, urad and moong dal in more area in Kharif Rabi season. Earlier on 2 June 2023 the government Under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 By issuing an order, it was decided to ban the hoarding of pulses and to impose a stock limit to rein in the prices of pulses. This stock limit will be applicable to wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers, millers and importers. All these will have to disclose the stock position by visiting the website of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs https://fcainfoweb.nic.in/psp.
Even before this, in the month of May, the government has instructed importers importing pulses to unload pulses in the market within 30 days after getting custom clearance. In a letter written to the association of pulses importing companies, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs had asked all the members to follow the advisory. In the advisory, the ministry has asked these importers not to hold the stock with them for more than 30 days after getting custom clearance. Along with this, on Friday of this week and every coming Friday, all the importers have been asked to give information about the holding stock of Arhar and Urad Dal on the online portal of the department.
