Wheat Atta Price Hike: On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, the central government has sold 385,000 tonnes of wheat worth Rs 901 crore in the open market. This was the second phase of selling wheat through auction from the Central Pool so that the skyrocketing prices of wheat could be controlled. But the condition is that even after the government sold wheat in the open market in two phases, the prices have not softened yet.

trying to cap prices

The central government has set a target of selling 3 million tonnes of wheat from the central pool in the open market. Which will be sold every Wednesday through e-auction till the second week of March. Food Corporation of India is selling this wheat. On the one hand, the government is selling wheat in the open market, despite this neither wheat nor flour prices have decreased. The figures of the government itself are confirming this fact.

Expensive flour in retail market

According to the data of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, on February 1, 2023, the average price of flour was Rs.35 per kg and still it is getting close to Rs.35 per kg. Wheat, which was available at Rs 29 per kg, is being available at Rs 28.50 per kg after a reduction of 50 paise per kg on February 17, 2023. Although the retail market is not taking the name of reducing the prices of flour. A 10 kg packet of packed branded flour is still available in the retail market for Rs 410 to 426. That is, one kg of flour is available for Rs 40 to 43 per kg.

Fear of crop damage due to rising temperature

This year, bumper yield of wheat is being expected in Rabi season. But in the second fortnight of February, as the temperature is increasing, the concern about the wheat crop has started increasing. The temperature is 3 to 4 degrees higher than normal, due to which wheat crop can be damaged like it was seen last year. If there is an increase in the temperature, then the concern about the wheat crop may increase, in such a situation, water may turn on the possibility of cheap wheat and flour.
