Google TikTok News: Google is thinking of buying a short video platform like Tiktok. Search engine Google has bought an AI startup named Alter, which specializes in creating avatars with the help of artificial intelligence. According to TechCrunch reports, Google has paid $100 million to buy Alter. According to media reports, the takeover was done a few months ago, but Google confirmed it earlier this week.
The Alter co-founder also updated his status on LinkedIn adding the comment ‘building avatars at Google’ to his profile. Avatars are supposed to be a big part of the future, at least in meta that Mark Zuckerberg & Co. wants the world to believe. Meta is trying to bring avatars on all its platforms including WhatsApp, which could become a reality very soon.
Photos, music and art can be created with AI
AI-generated content is another aspect of the business that has come to the fore and shown its potential. You have platforms that can create AI-based photos, music, and even art for that matter. These AI-based avatars also work well for Google because its facial recognition technology isn’t as advanced as Apple’s Face ID. Avatars can also be integrated with YouTube shorts, which could be Google’s big bet against TikTok in the short video space. We don’t know yet how Google plans to do this.
It will be interesting to see if Google decides to lay off all personnel from the recently takenover startup, or if it decides to arrange the team to better fit its business strategy.
