Go First canceled flights, blow to air passengers, air travel will be expensive

Air Fare To Rise: Air travelers may have to bear the brunt of GoFirst Airways’ decision to cancel all its flights for two days. There may be a jump in the spot fares of airlines, especially in those routes where GoFirst used to fly. Domestic air travel is also at its peak. The occupancy rate in planes is close to 90 percent. Means very few seats are left for booking. In such a situation, after the cancellation of GoFirst flights, passengers may have to pay 20 to 25 percent more fare for booking tickets in other airlines.

In this summer season, between March 26 and October 28, GoFirst has to fly 1538 flights every week. In which 6 flights have to be taken daily in Delhi-Srinagar and Mumbai-Goa routes. 6 out of 52 flights between Delhi-Mumbai, 5 out of 13 flights between Delhi-Leh and 3 out of 10 flights between Delhi-Bagdogra are to be filled daily. With the beginning of the month of May, the holiday season starts in which the demand for air travel increases. Despite all this, GoFirst has decided to cancel all its flights for two days.

Experts believe that the cancellation of most GoFirst flights may have an impact on the air fares of routes like Patna, Jammu and Leh where the demand-supply gap can be seen. The second problem is that of the passengers affected by the cancellation of flights. How and when will they get their money refund. Although GoFirst has said that it will return the money of the passengers. Passengers troubled by the cancellation of flights are venting their displeasure on social media. Angered by GoFirst Airways’ decision to cancel flights, the DGCA, while issuing a show cause notice, has asked why action should not be taken against it for contempt. Along with filing the reply to GoFirst, the details of the flight schedule from May 5 will also have to be given to the DGCA.

Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) President Jyoti Mayal said that GoFirst was flying for 17 years and this crisis has come when the demand for domestic air travel is increasing in the country. He said that there is a possibility of increasing the fares on the routes in which GoFirst was flying. He said that there could be a rise in the air fare in the coming weeks.

TAAI said in its statement that there is increasing concern for members and customers regarding refund on cancellation of tickets. This can have a bad effect on travel agents and they can suffer significant financial loss. TAAI said that the government should make a policy keeping in mind the interests of the customer and the service provider.
