CAG Girish Chandra Murmu: Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Girish Chandra Murmu has been entrusted with the responsibility as external auditor of International Labor Organization (ILO), Geneva for 4 years. He has been elected as the External Auditor of Geneva for a term of 4 years from 2024 to 2027. The country’s auditor (CAG) gave this information on Thursday (February 23).
Will get the post of external auditor
Girish Chandra Murmu will get to take over from the current external auditor of ILO, the Supreme Audit Institution of the Philippines. The appointment of the CAG is enhancing its high standards, global audit experience and strong national credibility with the international community as well. The CAG informed that the ILO had constituted a selection panel for the appointment of the external auditor and invited bids from the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs). In which on the basis of better technical experience and other criteria, ILO has selected 3 Apex Audit Institutions (India, Canada and United Kingdom).
Enhanced strength of selection panel
The panel has been further strengthened by the tripartite selection of the ILO by a three-member team of the CAG of India in Geneva. The selection panel will use the CAG’s perspective to develop a strategic partnership with the ILO. Its purpose is to assist the ILO in meeting its strategic goals while maintaining the independence and oversight important in performing the functions of an external auditor.
Took over the chairmanship of CAG institutions of G20 countries
Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu has also recently taken over the chairmanship of CAG institutions of G-20 countries. The CAG of Indonesia completed the formalities of handing over the chairmanship of SAI20 to the CAG of India in a virtual event. Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Deputy CAG) Parveen Mehta was also present to represent the CAG of India in this meeting.
What did Girish Chandra Murmu say
Girish Chandra Murmu said that the SAI20 Engagement Group, under the chairmanship of India, aims to bring together an ecosystem in which the Supreme Auditors’ Institute (SAI) is an active participant in governance and promotes transparency and accountability. Murmu said that SAI20 will continue to strengthen governance by promoting cooperation and coordination among member countries, leading to effective policy-making and its implementation in G-20 countries.
