Gabba Pitch Rating: The first Test played between Australia and South Africa in Brisbane was over within two days and there was a lot of talk about the pitch used for it. Now the International Cricket Council has taken a big decision regarding the pitch. The pitch has been rated below average by the ICC. On a green grass pitch, Australia won the match within two days and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
South African captain Dean Elgar had also expressed his displeasure over the pitch of the match which saw 34 wickets falling within two days. ICC Elite Panel match referee Richie Richardson, while releasing his report, rated it below average. The umpire told in his report that the bowlers got a lot of help on Gaba’s pitch and it seemed that the pitch was completely made for the bowlers. According to the umpire, there was no contest between the bat and the ball on the pitch.
Ground got a demerit point
Gaba has also got a demerit point for getting a below average rating. This point will remain active for the next five years and when a team gets five demerit points, it is banned for one year from hosting international cricket. In the Test played at Gabba, the South African team was all out twice within two days, while the Australian team lost 14 wickets.
