India is poised to host the much-awaited G20 Summit, with representatives from the world’s largest economies arriving in New Delhi for the two-day global gathering. This summit, hailed as the largest in its history, is set to commence on Saturday, with distinguished guests from member nations, invited countries and international organisations converging to discuss key global, economic, and geopolitical issues.
The prestigious event will unfold at the newly-constructed international convention and exhibition center, Bharat Mandapam, situated in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan.
As world leaders converge for the G20 Summit, host India has emphasised that the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration will echo the voice of the Global South. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media and expressed his confidence that the summit would forge a new path towards human-centric and inclusive development.
The global leaders will gather at the summit venue and engage in a welcome photo session with Prime Minister Narendra Modi between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM, preceding the commencement of the first session of discussions.
The inaugural session of the conclave, titled ‘One Earth,’ is scheduled from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by bilateral meetings from 1:30 PM to 3 PM.
The second session, ‘One Family,’ will run from 3 PM to 4:45 PM, with another round of bilateral meetings slated between 4:45 PM and 5:30 PM.
The first day of the G20 Summit will conclude with a customary dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, scheduled from 7 PM to 9:15 PM.
According to the news agency ANI, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with the Heads of States from the UK, Japan, Germany, and Italy on Saturday.
On Sunday, the global leaders will pay their respects by laying wreaths and attending a live performance at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial in New Delhi, beginning around 9 AM. Subsequently, they will participate in a tree-planting ceremony at the summit venue at 10:15 AM.
On the second day of the summit, PM Modi is slated to hold a working lunch meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, along with a pull-aside meeting with Canada. He will also engage in bilateral talks with Comoros, Turkiye, UAE, South Korea, EU/EC, Brazil, and Nigeria, as reported by ANI.
The closing press conference will feature addresses by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, scheduled around 2 PM. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will follow with another press conference at 3 PM on Sunday.
