5G Services in India: 5G services in India have been officially launched in India in October 2022. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) initially announced that 5G will be launched in 13 cities namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai. However, all the cities mentioned by the government are not getting the option of connectivity. At present, Airtel and Jio have started this service in select places.
Jio has launched four cities from October 2022. Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi and Kolkata has started providing 5G network in On the other hand, Airtel Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi I have launched my Airtel 5G Plus plan. Both Jio and Airtel are going to complete the 5G network around the cities step by step.
This means that not all users are getting 5G internet on 5G smartphones. Meanwhile, Vi (formerly Vodafone Idea) is yet to announce its 5G roll out date. But it will roll out 5G in the coming weeks or next month. Here is a list of cities where Jio and Airtel 5G will be available in the coming months.

5G India Rollout Timeline
According to DoT, 5G connectivity will spread across India at “affordable” prices within 2 to 3 years. According to the 5G rollout plan shared by Reliance Jio, Mukesh Ambani’s telecom company is aiming to start services in India by December 2023. Airtel aims to provide 5G services in all major metro cities by the end of 2022. Also, the company aims to make 5G available across India by December 2024. Both Jio and Airtel have announced that users with 4G connectivity SIM will not have to buy a new SIM for 5G connectivity. Smartphones that support 5G will automatically connect to the 5G network in the default SIM.
