PCB and Punjab Government: All the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League 2023 (PSL 2023) are now expected to be held in Karachi only. This situation is being created after the financial dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the interim government of Punjab. A final decision will be taken on this during the meeting of all the 6 franchise owners today (24th February) in the afternoon.
There is a dispute between the PCB and the Punjab government on how to split the security cost of hosting the tournament. Here the Punjab government demanded the PCB to pay 450 million Pakistan Rupees for the security cost during the matches held in Lahore and Rawalpindi. This amount also includes the cost to be borne by the government for hosting the matches in Multan. While PCB had an agreement with the previous government of Punjab to pay only 50 million Pakistani rupees in this case. There is a difference of 400 million Pakistani rupees here which is too much for PCB to bear.
The previous government of Punjab was dissolved in January
The previous government in Punjab was dissolved in January. In such a situation, an interim government has now been formed here. Talks are going on between this interim government and PCB on this issue for the last several days but both the sides are not ready to accept. It is being told that PCB is ready to pay the bill of catering in Punjab but does not want to pay the security cost. This is because PCB believes that the responsibility of security rests with the government.
What about PCB?
A PCB official says that the Punjab government has already borne the security cost of cricket in its province. This protection cost for the PCB would be too high to bear. If PCB itself has to bear this cost, then in such a situation the franchisees will also have to bear the cost. In such a situation, if the entire tournament is shifted to Karachi, then the money of both PCB and the franchise will be saved.
