Retina disease is known in the language of medical science as Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO). However, a recent research published in the online portal ‘Frontiers in Neuroscience’ has revealed that if eye drops are used in this disease instead of injections, it can be more effective. This research was done on rats, in which it was found that eye drops are very helpful in reducing inflammation in the veins of the retina and improving blood circulation. Endothelial growth factor inhibitor (anti-VEGF) injections are given during the treatment of RVO. Which reduces the swelling inside the retina. In this complete therapy, an attempt is made to correct the defect that occurs in the retina due to poor blood circulation.

“Anti-VEGF therapy has helped many people with RVO,” said Carol M. Troy, MD, professor of pathology and cell biology and neurology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Because in this the chances of retinal damage increase, or the retina gets damaged completely.
These days a new eye drops are being used in this disease. Which has prevented the neurons (photoreceptors) in the retina from deteriorating over time and has also been successful in bringing back the sight of many people. On the other hand, injection has not shown any significant effect in this disease. In this disease, a drug that is often given to the patient is Caspase-9. This medicine acts like an enzyme that regenerates dead tissues and helps in restoring blood circulation.
