Due to frequent changes in the weather and economic activities, the demand for fuel and electricity increased in the country last month. During the month of April, where on one hand the demand for diesel and petrol increased, on the other hand the consumption of electricity decreased. This information has been received in the latest figures.
Such an increase in the demand for diesel
According to the statistics of the petroleum industry, the demand for diesel in the last month i.e. April 2023 was 71.5 lakh tonnes. This is 6.7 percent more than a year ago i.e. April 2022. In the month of April, the share of diesel in the total fuel consumption across the country was about 40 percent. Diesel sales registered a growth of 4.8 percent on a monthly basis. Diesel consumption was 68.3 lakh tonnes in March due to seasonal slowdown.
Diesel demand increased due to these reasons
Diesel demand has been supported by agricultural and industrial activities . The timing of harvesting of rabi crops and a pick-up in economic activity led to a rise in demand for diesel in April, which led to a rise in overall fuel sales.
Demand for petrol also increased
In the month of April, petrol sales increased by about 2.5 percent on an annual basis to 2.64 million tonnes. However, compared to the month of March, a slight decline of 0.5 percent was registered in the sale of petrol on a monthly basis. In fact, since the second fortnight of March, the demand for petrol and diesel is witnessing a pick-up in industrial and economic activities.
ATF rises, LPG falls
The effect of the end of all the restrictions imposed during the Kovid-19 epidemic in the aviation sector is being seen on the total passenger traffic of the country. The number of air passengers has now reached close to the pre-epidemic level. Due to this, the demand for aviation fuel ie ATF increased by 15.4 per cent to reach 5.95 lakh tonnes as compared to April 2022. On the other hand, the sale of cooking gas LPG declined by 2.7 per cent to 2.19 million tonnes in April compared to a year ago.
Lower power consumption
Power consumption Talking about it, it has declined for the second consecutive month during April. Electricity consumption decreased by 1.1 percent to 130.57 billion units in April. Due to the rains in various areas, the use of equipment like AC, cooler has reduced as compared to the same period last year. This has reduced power consumption. Electricity consumption in April last year stood at 132.02 billion units.
