Did giving Shubman Gill a constant chance cost Team India?, understand in five points

Shubman Gill 2nd T20I: The Indian cricket team had to face defeat in the second T20 match against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka beat India by 16 runs in this match. After winning the second T20, the visitors drew 1-1 in the three-match series. Earlier in Mumbai, India defeated Sri Lanka by 2 runs in a close match. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 206 runs for 6 wickets in the match played at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Stadium. To achieve the target of 207 runs for victory, the Indian team could score only 190 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. The reason for India’s defeat in the second match was poor bowling. Apart from this, Team India trusted Shubman Gill more than necessary.

Poor playing XI selection

India’s defeat in the second T20 was because of its poor playing XI selection. Shubman Gill started his T20 International career in the first match played in Mumbai. Shubman had done well in the ODI series earlier. After which he got a chance to play in T20 as well. He was able to score 7 runs in the first T20. In such a situation, it was not fair to give him a chance in the second match as well. T20 players more experienced than Shubman were left sitting on the bench.

• If Rituraj Gaikwad was given a chance in the second match instead of Shubman, he could have proved more effective. Recently, Rituraj has performed brilliantly in domestic cricket.
• Rituraj Gaikwad had a great performance in the Vijay Hazare Hazare Trophy 2022-23. He scored 660 runs in 5 matches. During this, Rituraj also played an unbeaten inning of 220 runs. Pune has been his home ground.
• No player should be given a chance in another match after one match which is not fair. But sometimes a tough decision has to be taken according to the circumstances.
• It was a good thing to make Rahul Tripathi’s debut. But it is not possible that a debutant will score a lot of runs in the very first match.
• Now India is in danger of losing the T20 series. Team India does not have much left to experiment with. In such a situation, the Indian team will be under pressure in the third T20.
