Following the Odisha train accident which led to the deaths of 261 people and injured about 650, leaders from across the world have been expressing their grief. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have offered their condolences to the bereaved families. Türkiye’s Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement also issued a statement in this regard. Meanwhile, a high-level probe has been ordered into the matter.
As per the Russian news agency TASS, Kremlin’s website said, “Please accept our deep condolences over the tragic aftermath of the train collision in Odisha. We share the grief of those who lost their relatives and close ones in this catastrophe and we hope for speedy recovery to everyone injured.”

Japanese PM Kishida in his message wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of many precious lives and the injuries in the train accident in the State of Odisha. On behalf of the Government of Japan and its people, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.”

Turkey extended its condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that read, “We have learned with deep sorrow that close to 300 people lost their lives and nearly 1000 people were injured last night as a result of a train crash in Odisha, India.”
“We extend our condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident as well as to the people and Government of India and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” it added.

Previously, Prime Minister Modi on Friday took to Twitter to share his grief and wrote, “Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected.”
