Mayank Agarwal IPL Auction 2023: There will be an auction for the Indian Premier League 2023 in Kochi on Friday. In this, bidding will be done on all the players of the country and the world. Just before this, veteran cricketer Chris Gayle has supported Mayank Agarwal while praising him. Gayle said that he would be disappointed if Mayank was not selected. He has described Mayank as an explosive batsman.

Agarwal was named as the captain of Punjab Kings for IPL 2022 and was retained by the franchise for Rs 12 crore. But he could not bat better with the captain, due to which he scored only 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33.

On the captaincy front, he did not perform well as Punjab finished sixth in the ten-team points table. In November, Shikhar Dhawan replaced Agarwal as the captain of Punjab Kings. He was released by the team after the announcement of replacing Anil Kumble with Trevor Bayliss as the head coach.

He said, Mayank will definitely be a big player. If someone doesn’t pick him, I will be very disappointed because he is an explosive player. I know he is probably hurt within himself that he was not retained by the Punjab Kings later. What a sacrifice he has made for the franchise and to be treated like this is disappointing.

Gayle said, I hope that the teams still believe in him and will try to take Mayank. He may not have done well last season, but he is someone who has set a great platform in the last two years and is a fantastic team man.

Gayle, who spent time with Punjab Kings from 2018-2021, believes that the franchise needs to back its players at any cost to generate the consistency required for success in the IPL. Since their inception in 2008, Punjab have been underachievers, finishing runners-up in 2014 and reaching the semi-finals in the first season.

Gayle further said, there is always pressure in IPL, so if you improve yourself on this immense pressure, then you will move forward. He needs to see and say this to the team. Make sure you guys are focusing on your game.

Gayle said the tournament would remember the memorable innings provided by fellow West Indies players Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard. Prior to the auction, Pollard and Bravo have announced that they will no longer play in the IPL and will take up coaching roles. Pollard will be the new batting coach of Mumbai Indians, while Bravo will be the bowling coach of Chennai Super Kings.
