It has been revealed in a research that children whose childhood is painful and full of anxiety and stress, those children grow up to become angry. The more trauma a child gets in childhood, the more angry they become as adults. Misbehaving with children not only affects their mental health, but also affects their social relationships. Not only this, the treatment of depression and tension of such people also becomes difficult. This study has been presented at the European Congress of Psychiatry in Paris.
According to earlier research, more than 40 percent of patients suffering from tension and depression were found to be suffering from anger. The Netherlands’ ongoing study on depression and tension provided the data for this study. In early 2004, participants between the ages of 18 and 65 were included in this research and they were questioned about their childhood. By the end of the study, 2276 people had participated. Years of study sought to ascertain whether they had a history of childhood trauma, such as parental death, parental divorce, etc.
Childhood trauma becomes the reason for anger!
They also asked participants about physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Participants were also examined for a variety of psychiatric symptoms related to depression and anxiety, which revealed the reason for their anger. Lead researcher Nienke de Blaes (Leiden University, The Netherlands) said that there has been very little research on anger. This new study has helped to bring a lot of scientific data to the fore.
The research found that people who experienced emotional neglect, physical or psychological abuse in childhood were 1.3 to 2 times more likely to develop anger problems. The researchers also found that the more traumatic the childhood experience, the more anger tends to increase in adulthood. It cannot be said with certainty that childhood trauma alone causes anger, but there is definitely a link between the two.
