Nahay Khay Puja Vidhi

  • Take special care of the purity of body and mind on the day of taking bath in Chhath Puja. Naye Khaye means taking bath after taking food.
  • Clean the whole house thoroughly on this day. Then before sunrise, take a bath by pouring Ganges water in the holy river or in the bathing water at home. Cook food only by wearing clean clothes or new clothes.
  • There is also a tradition of making gourd vegetable and gram dal in the food on the day of bathing. Rock salt is used in this food.
  • It is believed that on this day women or men fasting first take food then other members of the house.

Nahay Khay Rules

  • On the day of taking a bath, the fasting should thoroughly clean the entire house, because purity has special importance in this festival. Along with this, there is a law for the devotees to bathe in the holy river or pond.
  • Give up tamasic food during the four-day festival. Only sattvik food is eaten. Follow celibacy. The fast should sleep on the ground for four days.
  • On this day, fasting people take food only once. The salt-rich food of the first day is prepared with cleanliness and purity. Keep in mind that while cooking food, do not use mixed things.
  • Make offerings of worship on an earthen stove only because clay stoves are considered clean and pure.
