The rule will come into effect from April 1, 2023
The Consumer Ministry said that this decision has been taken regarding the confusion of 4 and 6 digit hallmarking. According to the new rule, now only alphanumeric hallmarking of 6 numbers will be valid. Without this it will not be valid to sell gold jewellery. Along with this, the ministry has also said that now the four-digit hallmarks will also be completely closed. It is noteworthy that the government had started making efforts a year and a half ago to stop the sale of fake jewelry in the country.

What is HUID?

Through this code, there is a lot of reduction in the cases of fraud. This number is put on every jewellery. In such a situation, shopkeepers will not be able to sell jewelery without hallmark from April 1, while customers will be able to sell old jewelery without hallmark. Let us inform that there are a total of 1338 hallmarking centers across the country. Let us tell you that this center is present in 85 percent of the country and more centers are being built in the remaining parts.
