Cashew Nuts: Yes you have heard right. Cashew is one of the most popular dry fruits due to its creamy texture and sweet taste and everyone craves to eat it. The amount of nutrients present in it keep you healthy. The price of cashew always skyrockets and its cost is around Rs 800-1000 per kg. However, you will be surprised to know that this is the only place in India that sells these nuts at a much lower rate somewhere between Rs.30-100 per kg. There is a district named Jamtara in Jharkhand, which is also known as the fishing capital of India, which sells this popular dry fruit at such a low price.

Cashew City

Just four kilometers away from this Jamtara city is a village named ‘Nala’, which is called the cashew city of Jharkhand. In this village you can easily get cashew nuts at a price of Rs.20-30 per kg, which is same as any other vegetable across the country.

Why are cashews so cheap here?

The first reason for selling cashew at such a cheap rate is that there is an area of 50 acres in this village, where the villagers cultivate cashew. According to official sources, when the Forest Department found that the climate and soil of Nala village around 2010 was favorable for cashew cultivation, cashew farming came into everyone’s attention. After this, cashew farming was done on a large scale. As soon as cashew fruits grow in the plants, the farmers collect them and sell them on the roadside for a quarter of the price. This place is not much developed, that’s why villagers sell cashew nuts at such cheap rates.

How did farming start?

According to sources, when IAS Kripanand Jha was the Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara, he came to know that the soil and climate of Nala is suitable for cashew cultivation. Thus he talked to some agricultural scientists to plant cashew trees. After this, the Forest Department took the initiative and planted cashew saplings in 50 acres of land in the drain. Since then cashew is being cultivated in Jharkhand, but sadly it is not benefiting the farmers as they sell cashew at such a low price.
