Bumrah To Lead India In Australia In Rohit Sharma’s Absence? BCCI’s Announcement Has A Hint


India captain Rohit Sharma has taken to leadership like a fish to water. While he had already been successful as a skipper in franchise cricket and in the international tournaments where he was the interim leader, as a full-time captain Rohit has been sensational, leading the team to triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after a fairytale run to the final in the ODI World Cup 2023 at home.

Recently, Rohit inspired the Men in Blue to go for win in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh which has already started talk about his legacy as a captain. No wonder the team is looking up to him as their undisputed leader at this point in time. However, a recent report carried by news agency PTI sent shock waves across the cricket community. As claimed in the report, the Indian captain will be missing at least one of the first Two Tests in Australia when India tour Down Under for a five-match series.

While there was speculation over who could lead India in Rohit’s absence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped a major hint about who could step in as the captain, in case Rohit indeed have to miss out. Notably, the Indian cricket board announced India’s squad for the home series against New Zealand which comprises of three Tests. In the squad, it was Jasprit Bumrah who was named the vice-captain, ending all doubts over who will be the captain if Rohit missed out.
