From July 1, the Karnataka government is going to give the gift of free electricity under Griha Jyoti Yojana. Meanwhile, many consumers are complaining that the electricity bill has increased before they get the benefit, because the Karnataka government has increased the electricity charge. Indian Express reports that electricity tariff has been reduced by 70%. 

The state government has also given permission to impose Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) from July to December. The report of the Indian Express states that a record increase has been seen in the electricity bills of some consumers. Some consumers say that the amount of the bill has increased by 21 percent. While some told that there has been an increase of 60 percent. 

Why the electricity bill suddenly became so expensive

After the approval of the electricity bill proposals by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, electricity has become costlier. According to the May 12 tariff order, an increase of 70 paise per unit has been made in June. Apart from this, 70 paise per unit arrears of April has also been added to the June bill. Apart from this, FPPCA charge of Rs 1.49 per unit has also been imposed in June and Rs 1.81 per unit has been extended till July. In this case, there has been an increase of Rs 2.89 per unit in the tariff for June.   

The cost of electricity bill will be reduced 

Due to the increase in the record electricity bill in Karnataka, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) said that the bills of June are showing more, but the amount of the bill will be less in the coming month. According to the Times of India, some people have received negative bills. Some residents of Bengaluru have received negative bills ranging from -500 to -4,500. According to a senior official, the negative bill is due to a change in the software, which is being rectified.  

What is free electricity scheme of Karnataka government 

Karnataka government has promised to provide free electricity to the people under Griha Jyoti Yojana. Under this, less than 200 units of free electricity will be given to all households, which will be implemented from July 1. The state government said that schemes like Bhagya Jyoti and Kutira Jyoti would be merged into it.
