After losing the T20 World Cup, there is a lot of turmoil in the Indian team. Especially there is talk about a new team in T20 International. A lot of talk is being said about the senior players present in the team. A PTI report said that gradually players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and R Ashwin will be phased out from T20 Internationals in the next few months.

BCCI source while talking to PTI on the condition of maintaining confidentiality said, “BCCI never asks to retire. It is the player’s own decision. But yes, there are only a few T20 Internationals to be played in 2023, during which time most of the players in the team will focus on ODIs and Tests.”

The source further said, “If you do not want to take retirement, then do not take it. You will see that next year most of the senior players will not play T20 International.”

One Day World Cup to be held next year

Next year ODI World Cup is to be played in India only. Keeping this World Cup in mind, players will pay more attention to long format cricket. According to the Future Tour Program, the Indian team will play a total of 25 ODIs (including the ODIs of New Zealand tour) and a total of 9 T20 Internationals before the ODI World Cup.

Hardik can be T20 captain

Keeping a separate captain for each format in the team is also being considered. There are speculations in T20 International that Hardik Pandya will be the captain of the team. Recently, he took over the captaincy of the team in the T20 series played against New Zealand. Hardik Pandya & Company was successful in winning the series. At the same time, nothing has been said about the captain of the team in ODIs and Tests.
