WTC 2023 Final IND vs AUS: India had to face defeat against Australia in the World Test Championship final. Team India got defeated by 209 runs in this match. India did not include Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing eleven. Former Indian player Sachin Tendulkar has questioned this decision of Team India. Sachin tweeted that it is beyond my understanding to keep Ashwin out of the playing XI.
Australia beat India by 209 runs in the WTC final. India’s head coach Rahul Dravid defended the decision not to include Ashwin in the team, saying that the rain conditions forced him to go with the fourth fast bowler. Tendulkar tweeted on Sunday, “India had to score big in the first innings to stay in the match, but they could not do it. There were some good moments for the Indian team, but I cannot digest the decision of not including Ashwin in the playing XI. He is the number one Test bowler in the world at the moment.
Tendulkar was puzzled by the argument that a bowler of Ashwin’s caliber could not be used in pacer-friendly conditions, that too when this Australian team had several left-handed batsmen. He said, “I had said before the match that a skilful spinner does not always rely on help when he meets the pitch. He uses the wind, the bounce of the pitch and his variations. It should not be forgotten that Australia had five left-handed batsmen in the top eight. Ashwin has taken 61 wickets in 13 Tests in the two-year circle of the second season of the World Test Championship.
Congratulations to Team Australia on winning the #WTCFinal, @stevesmith49 and @travishead34 Set a solid foundation on Day one itself to tilt the game in their favour. India had to bat big in the first innings to stay in the game, but they couldn’t. There were some good moments…
