After jewellery, now hallmarking will be mandatory for gold bullion as well, BIS chief gave big information

Gold Bullion Hallmarking: There is good news for those investing in gold. After making hallmarking mandatory in gold jewellery, now hallmarking may be necessary for gold bullion as well. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has formed a group keeping in view the demand of the people associated with the industry. Giving information about this, Bureau of Indian Standards Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said on Monday that hallmarking is like a quality certificate which was made mandatory from July 1, 2022 in 288 districts. It has been made necessary for 14 carat, 18 carat and 22 carat gold and artifacts.

Gold bullion will ensure the purity of jewelery

Along with this, he said that it has been a demand of customers for a long time that the purity of jewelery can be ensured only when hallmarking of gold bullion is also made mandatory. In such a situation, the Bureau of Indian Standards has prepared a draft of its guidelines for this. Explain that gold bullion is a raw material through which jewelery is manufactured. Along with this, Pramod BIS Director General has also said that he will take suggestions from people on the draft of this guideline and good comments will be included in it.

Please tell that BIS has told that two meetings have been held on the decision to make Gold Bullion Hallmarking mandatory. The reason behind this decision is that the refiners will be able to know the quality and purity of the imported gold. Along with this, its effect will also be seen on the purity of gold jewellery.

Hallmarking of gold jewelery is mandatory from April 1

Significantly, from April 1, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has made 6 numbers of alphanumeric hallmarking mandatory for gold. After this decision, the confusion of 4 and 6 digit hallmarking has also ended. In such a situation, now no jeweler will be able to sell jewelery without hallmark. This will help in curbing the trade of fake gold in the country. Tell that customers will be able to sell old jewelery without hallmark, but hallmarking will be necessary for the shopkeeper. This rule will come into force from April 1, 2023.
