The government has made some amendments in the Aadhaar rule saying that if you have completed 10 years of getting the Aadhaar number, then you can update the relevant documents at least once. Notification issued by IT Ministry
According to sources, a notification has been issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Updation of Aadhaar will ensure periodic accuracy of relevant information in the Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR). According to the notification, the documents containing identity and residence proof can be updated at least once on completion of every 10 years from the date of enrollment of Aadhaar card. This will ensure the accuracy of Aadhaar-linked information in CIDR on an ongoing basis.

UIDAI had requested
There has been a change in the provision of Aadhaar (Enrollment and Update) regulation regarding updating of information. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issued the Aadhaar number, had urged people last month. The UIDAI had said that if it has been more than 10 years for them to have Aadhaar number and they have not updated the relevant information again, then they should update the identity and residence proof documents.

UIDAI has brought a new facility for the people. It has brought ‘Documents Update’ on My Aadhaar Portal. This facility can be used online through My Aadhar Portal and My Aadhar App. The concerned person can also visit any Aadhaar Enrollment Center to avail this facility.

So far UIDAI has issued Aadhaar numbers to 134 crore people. With this move of UIDAI, how many Aadhaar holders will need to update their information, it is not known at the moment. Last year around 16 crore different types of updates have been done in Aadhaar. In this new facility, Aadhaar holders can re-verify the relevant information by updating the documents of identity proof (containing name and photo) and proof of residence (containing name and address).

How to update online

  • Go to the Aadhaar Update Portal and click on “Update your Address Online”.
  • If you have a valid address proof, then click on the “Proceed to Update Address” tab.
  • A new page will open, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click on “Send OTP”.
  • An OTP will come on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar, enter it.
  • Select the option “Update Address by Address Proof” or “Update Address vis Secret Code”.
  • Enter your address given in the Proof of Address (POA) and click on the “Preview” button.
  • If you want to edit the address, then click on “Modify” and tick the declaration and press the “Submit” button.
  • Now select the document type, which you are giving as POA for verification.
  • Upload the scanned copy of the address proof and click on the “Submit” button.
  • Your Aadhaar update request will be accepted, and you will be given a 14 digit URN, with which you will be able to check the status.
