Security has been tightened outside Indian missions in Canada after a pro-Khalistan group called for protests over the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s allegations of India’s “link” with the murder. Reports mentioned barricading being put outside the Indian High Commissions after extremist outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) launched the ‘Death To India – Balkanize’ campaign, calling to ‘shut down Indian missions’ globally on September 25 to expose “Modi regime’s nefarious designs to assassinate Khalistan Referendum Campaigners”, reported Outlook.

Consequently, Canadian authorities have beefed up the security outside Indian missions while local and federal police are keeping an eye on the developments, as per India Today. It added that SFJ has called for a week-long protest in Canada. SFJ is an unlawful organisation and is banned in India.

Earlier, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, who is a member of the separatist Khalistan group, threatened Hindus to leave asking them to leave Canada and go back to India. Now, a Delhi Police Special Cell’s dossier on Pannu revealed that he wants to divide India and create many countries. According to the dossier, Pannun’s primary agenda through the SFJ organisation is to divide India and create a separate Muslim nation called the ‘democratic republic of Urduistan’ in an attempt to separate Kashmir from India.

“Pannun aims to divide India along religious lines. He intends to influence the country’s Muslim population to establish a separate Muslim nation, which he wishes to name the ‘democratic republic of Urduistan,” IANS reported citing the dossier. “Furthermore, he is actively working to radicalise the people of Kashmir in order to potentially facilitate Kashmir’s separation from India,” it added.

Khalistan Supporters Protest, Burn Indian Flag In Canada

As the matter rages, Khalistan supporters held a protest outside the Indian Consulate in Vancouver against the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar after Canadian PM Trudeau’s allegations. According to ANI, the agitators waved Khalistan flags, played music, shouted slogans and burnt India’s flag. Similar protests were held in Toronto as well, the agency stated.

India-Canada Tensions

It all began with Canadian PM Trudeau’s remarks that he has intelligence input of “potential links” between the Indian government and the killing of Nijjar. India rejected the claims as ‘absurd’ and ‘motivated’ and also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat action after Canada expelled a top Indian diplomat.

New Delhi also asked Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic staff in India. Meanwhile, the US has said that it is in close contact with members concerned with the matter in India and Canada affirming that the probe must go on.
