Tales of Akbar Birbal: Fields of Gold
When Akbar’s special bouquet broke
There were many valuable items of decoration in the palace of Emperor Akbar. One of them was Guldasta. But this was not a common bouquet, rather Emperor Akbar was very fond of this bouquet. That’s why he always kept it next to his bed. One day a servant was cleaning Akbar’s room, when that bouquet broke from his hand. The servant was very scared and after that he tried to connect that bouquet in some way. But his attempt failed and the bouquet could not be attached. In such a situation, he threw the broken bouquet in the dustbin thinking that Akbar’s eyes should not fall on it.
After some time when Akbar returned to the palace, he went straight to his room. He saw that his favorite bouquet was not near the bed. Akbar asked the servant about that bouquet. The servant started trembling due to fear. He could not understand what to say to Akbar, so he said that I have taken that bouquet to my house, so that I can clean it properly. On hearing this, Akbar became more angry and started saying, bring me that bouquet immediately.
Akbar sentenced the servant to death
Now the servant had no way to escape, so he told Akbar the whole truth that the bouquet broke while cleaning it. Akbar became enraged after hearing about the breaking of the bouquet and Akbar sentenced the servant to death. The king said, I do not tolerate lies. Why did you lie to me when the bouquet was broken.
Akbar expelled Birbal from the court
The next day this incident was mentioned in the court and Birbal opposed it. Birbal said that every person tells a lie sometimes. In such a situation, if nothing bad or wrong is done by someone’s lying, then it is not wrong to lie. After hearing such a thing from Birbal, Akbar got angry on him too. Akbar asked all the people present in the assembly whether there is anyone here who has ever lied. Everyone said in one voice that no, he does not lie. After this, Akbar also expelled Birbal from the court.
After being expelled from the court, Birbal decided that he would somehow prove that every person lies at some point in life. Birbal immediately got an idea in his mind and went straight to the goldsmith. Birbal got an earring made of gold from a jeweler that looked like wheat and took it to Akbar’s assembly.
Birbal showed cleverness
Akbar saw Birbal in the assembly and asked, why have you come here now. Birbal said, today such a miracle will happen in Jahanpanah, which no one present here would have ever seen. But for this you have to listen to me first. After listening to Birbal, the curiosity of Akbar and all the people present in the gathering increased. Akbar allowed Birbal to speak.
Birbal said, when I was leaving the court and going towards home, I saw a perfect man on the way. He has given me this gold earring of wheat and said that the field where you plant it, gold crop will start growing there. I need some land near your court to plant it. Akbar said, this is a very good thing. Let us get you the land. Birbal said, I want the whole royal court to see this miracle. That’s why everyone went with me to sow this wheat in the field.
Akbar and all the chairman reached the farm. After reaching the field, Birbal said that the Siddha Purush has said that the crop will grow from this golden earring of wheat only when someone sows it, who has never told a lie in his life. Everyone became silent after listening to Birbal. No one was ready to sow wheat ears.
Seeing this, Akbar said, is there no one in the court who has never lied in his life? After this everyone became silent. Birbal said, Jahanpanah! So you yourself plant this earring in the field. Akbar bowed his head after listening to Birbal. He said, Birbal I have also told many lies in my childhood. That’s why I can’t even install it.
Birbal saved the servant’s life
After this, Akbar came to understand that, Birbal was right in saying that, sometime in this world all people lie and no one is truthful. As soon as Akbar realized this, he immediately ordered to stop the death sentence of that servant.
