Vijay Vardhan, a resident of Sirsa, Haryana, did his schooling from Sirsa only. After completing his schooling, he did his B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from Hisar. Did. After doing engineering, he went to Delhi to study for UPSC. He gave about 30 competitive exams including UPPSC, Haryana PCS, SSC and CGL during preparation but was not successful in any. But he was disappointed by these failures but did not give up nor lost patience.

In 2014, Vijay Vardhan took the UPSC exam for the first time and did not succeed. He failed even after four consecutive attempts one after the other. His hard work and patience paid off in 2018 and he was able to clear UPSC with 104 All India Rank and became an IPS. He was not happy and satisfied with becoming an IPS. After this, he took the UPSC exam again in 2021 and became an IAS. IAS Vijay Vardhan has told civil services aspirants that you yourself are your best teacher.
