NCDRC Strict on Charging for Carry Bags: With the beginning of the festive season, people are shopping fiercely in the market these days. Large e-commerce companies are setting up festive sales for their customers. But even today, a large number of people in the country prefer to go shopping from shops. In such a situation, the consumer forum of the government keeps on coming up with new rules from time to time to protect the rights of the customers. There have been many such cases in the country, in which many malls and stores charge customers in exchange for carry bags. The consumer forum had issued an order two years ago that now no shopkeeper will charge customers for carry bags. But many companies are not following this rule.
Recently, the Consumer Forum has fined the country’s largest company Big Bazaar for charging customers separately for carry bags. Earlier, two years ago, the Forum had ordered to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on the company. Along with this, the customer was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 18 for the carry bag and Rs 500 for mental trouble.
What is Consumer Protection Act 2019?
Keeping in mind the rights of the customers, the central government has made many rules and has also implemented the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Through this rule, the government tries to regulate the shopkeepers and protects the interests of the customers. If a consumer has to file a complaint against any shopkeeper or company, then he can file a complaint in this consumer forum. If someone asks you separately for a carry bag, then you can file a complaint because asking for money for a carry bag is punishable.
You can complain like this-
Whenever you get your goods billed at the billing counter, then take special care that the shopkeeper has not added the charges for the carry bag in your bill. For this, you should check it thoroughly before bill payment. If you are being charged for a carry bag, then you can complain about it in the consumer forum.
