Lord Vishnu will wake up from the sleeping time on Devuthani Ekadashi. As soon as Vishnu ji wakes up, auspicious works like marriage, marriage, shaving, house warming, starting of new business, purchase of vehicle etc. will start.

What can be done in Chaturmas

  • In Chaturmas, devotees should observe celibacy by staying in seclusion and should sleep on the ground.
  • Chaturmas is considered auspicious for chanting, penance, mantra, yagya and worship. It is believed that negative forces become more active at this time due to the deities being in their sleep. That’s why its inauspicious effects can be reduced by chanting, penance and worship.
  • In Chaturmas, instead of eating in any vessel, one should eat on a plate. Also, eat only once during this time.
  • Do worship Tulsi plant in Chaturmas and light a ghee lamp in the evening.

Do not do this work in Chaturmas

  • Oil, honey, radish, parvar, brinjal, greens etc. should not be consumed in Chaturmas. They are not considered right from the point of view of health.
  • In the four months of Chaturmas, avoid eating leafy vegetables and greens in Savan, do not consume curd in Bhadrapada, milk in Ashwin and sacrifice garlic and thirst in the month of Kartik.
  • Food should not be taken from other people during Chaturmas. But you can donate food to the needy.
  • During this, do not do auspicious work nor start any auspicious work.
  • Do not break Tulsi leaves in Chaturmas and oil massage should not be done on the body.
