Several people were hurt, with some seriously injured, after a passenger train with at least 50 people derailed after hitting construction equipment on the track, said the Dutch emergency services as per a report by Reuters.
According to news agency ANP, the front carriage of the night train from Leiden city to The Hague derailed and plunged into a field after the accident.
The second carriage was on its side and a fire broke out in a rear carriage which was later put off, it added.

A notice from the emergency services stated that rescue teams were at the scene of the accident near Voorschoten, a village between Leiden and The Hague.
Meanwhile, trains between Leiden and parts of The Hague were canceled due to the accident, Dutch Railways (NS) said in a tweet.
