A meeting of the committee constituted by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) to monitor the wheat crop has been held at ICAR- Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal. The meeting was attended by senior officials from IMD, ICAR, State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), major wheat producing states and state government as well as officials from DA&FW. In this meeting, the status of wheat crop has been discussed in detail on the data presented by the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In which more than 85 percent of the wheat area has been estimated.

This committee has said that, today the condition of wheat crop is normal in all the major wheat producing states. Due to the intensive efforts of ICAR and SAU, this is being seen. More than 50 percent of the estimated area is under cultivation, especially in the northwestern plains. About 75 percent of the area in Haryana and Punjab is currently sown.

According to the ministry, in the total wheat procurement target for FY2022-23 (April-March), Punjab has been targeted to procure 25 lakh tonnes, Haryana 15 lakh tonnes and Madhya Pradesh 20 lakh tonnes.
