Oral Cancer Symptoms: Mouth cancer can develop in any part. Like lips, gums, tongue, inner layer of cheeks or under the tongue. Oral cancer is one of the most common cancer in India. According to a 2020 paper published in Science Direct, tobacco consumption has been a major cause of oral cancer. Gutkha, Zarda, Khaini, cigarette, beedi are the most commonly consumed. This is one of the major reasons for the development of tumors.
Some signs associated with oral cancer that should not be ignored are:
white spots
Red or white rough patches may appear on the gums, tongue, tonsils or the lining of the mouth. This is called leukoplakia. Most leukoplakia patches are non-cancerous, however, some may show early signs of cancer. These may be due to the use of tobacco. It is best to consult a doctor if you develop these patches.
frequent lumps
You are developing a lump or growth in your mouth or on the lymph glands (in the neck) that do not go away. You may have a persistent feeling that something is stuck in your throat or may experience a sore throat. So don’t ignore these signs.
pain or numbness
Numbness, loss of feeling, pain or tenderness in any area of the face, mouth or neck for no apparent reason could be a sign of oral cancer. You may also develop swelling or pain in your jaw. If you use dentures, they may be uncomfortable or difficult to put on. Do not ignore these symptoms continuously. Consult a doctor in time.
