Petrol containing ethanol will start being available in the country from April 1! Know what is the government’s plan

Ethanol Petrol India 1 April 2023: Petrol containing ethanol (E20 Petrol) will start being available from April 1, 2023, at some selected places in the country. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri (Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas) says that E20 i.e. 20 percent ethanol mixture in petrol will be available for use in vehicles in a phased manner in the country. According to the same media reports, its first phase is going to start from April 1, 2023. It will start being available in some cities of the country. After this, there is a plan to gradually implement it across the country. With this, the government is expected to get a lot of relief from the burden on petrol.

If media reports are to be believed, then petrol pumps of some selected cities of the country will be selected for this work. Where this fuel will be made available for the use of the general public. You do not need any change in the engine of the car for this. The implementation of the proposed scheme of the ministry will give a boost to the government’s plan to mix ethanol in petrol, in which a target has been set to mix 20 percent ethanol in the total petrol supply across the country by 2025-26 ethanol supply year. Although the last date of this mixture was earlier kept as 2030, which has now been reduced, because the supply of raw ethanol has increased very fast.

Minister Puri says that India is on its way to share 25 percent of the global demand for ethanol by 2040. India has increased the ethanol blending in petrol from 1.53 per cent in 2013-14 to 10.17 per cent in 2022. To achieve the target of 20 per cent blending by 2025, the country needs 10.2 to 11 billion liters of ethanol.

The production capacity of ethanol in the country is being further increased. The country needs about 14.5 billion liters of ethanol. Some of its production is used in the starch and chemical industries. Talking about production, about 7.6 billion liters of ethanol is produced from sugarcane. 7.2 billion liters is being produced from grain and non grain based sources like paddy straw etc.
