Ajay Jadeja on Shreyas Iyer: Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja includes Team India’s middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer among the contenders for the next Indian captain. He says that 2-3 years ago, Iyer was being considered as a replacement for Kohli and considering the temperament with which he has now started playing again, he is also a candidate for the captaincy.
Praising Shreyas Iyer’s innings in the Mirpur Test, Jadeja said on Sony Sports Network, ‘Not once, on many occasions Shreyas has rescued Team India from difficult situations. When he returned from injury, he was struggling on short pitch balls. He has now removed this weakness of his. When you learn to overcome any problem, you go far ahead of others. Jadeja says, ‘2-3 years ago, Shreyas was being considered as the next captain of Team India. Now however the circumstances have completely changed as there are now 12 captains in Indian cricket.
‘Shreyas’s temperament is wonderful’
Jadeja says, ‘Shreyas is scoring runs continuously. His average in Test cricket this year has been 60-70. And the style he showed on the fourth day in the Mirpur Test was wonderful. If you look at that partnership, you will find that Ashwin played more balls and also scored more runs. This was because Shreyas knew that he was the last specialist batsman and he had to stay on the pitch till he finished the job. For me, this kind of temperament matters more than skills and ability.
Shreyas is the captain of KKR
Shreyas Iyer has captained Delhi Capitals in IPL a few years back. He had replaced Gautam Gambhir. He was a successful captain for Delhi, although Rishabh Pant later replaced him. Presently Shreyas is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. Along with the wonderful game in IPL, this year Shreyas has also spread a lot of colors in international cricket. He has been the highest international run scorer for India this year (1609 runs).
